![]() ![]() It felt as if I was having this conversation with my mom. ![]() When her brother told her she was still too young and naive and lacked the life experience needed to be a writer, that hit me hard. However, as I kept reading, I began understanding her more and more. I struggled to relate to the main character. In the beginning, I was a bit bored and wanted to finish the book as soon as possible. There is only one person who has won her heart - a boy. But even now, in her world, it seems like everyone is the enemy - from her older brother attempting to destroy her dreams of writing books, to her classmates and the school staff. Life after high school is waiting for her. As she is hiding the secret of her loss, she has to navigate through life. Her older brother and a family friend help as much as they can, but nothing can replace having your parents around. However, she has been orphaned and has to live by herself. At first glance, she comes across like every other teenager around her - she is graduating from high school, is interested in basketball and enjoys spending time with her dog. It is from the point of view of a fifteen-year-old girl. The book is set in Croatia, possibly in the early 2000s. It was written by Nada Mihelcic and is currently on the curriculum in many high schools all over Croatia. ![]() It's called "Bilješke Jedne Gimnazijalke", which I believe would be translated from Croatian to English as "The Diary of a High School Girl" (or the notes of a high school girl?). Today I would like to review a book I began reading this month. ![]()
